What Is SEO
Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) is the art of moving a website up the search engine’s “natural” listings for particular keywords. Natural rankings are the first 10 results you see on a page and do not include the ‘paid for’ advertising you see to the side or above the main results
in coloured boxes.
Search Engines aim to place the most relevant and useful sites in the top 10 results. With Search Engine Optimisation we work on your site to move it up these listings. For example you might be a shoe shop in Cheshire, so to increase business, you would want your website to appear when people search for “shoe shops, Cheshire” or “shoes in Cheshire” These are what we call “keywords” In addition, if your business was called “Janes Shoe Shop” your website would come up when people search for your business name.
We will consult with you as well as research the competition to find the best keywords to focus on that will drive traffic but more importantly – sales to your website.
There are a number of factors on which Search Engines rank your website. These include ‘on page’ factors such as your site title, and any text on your page, and ‘off page’ factors such how many sites are linked to you, and how important these sites are. The text they use while linking to you also affects this ranking.
We work on both these factors, by tailoring a report and recommendations document for changes which will help your website to seem more relevant to the keywords being focused on. We will also generate and monitor incoming links to your website.
It is not possible to pay Google or Yahoo to put your site at the top of the natural listings and anyone who tries to sell you this is misleading you. However as outlined above SEO is the recognised practice of improving your website for relevance.
Using these techniques your site should move up the listings. How quickly and how far it moves up can vary, depending on other sites competing for page 1. As you can imagine it will take longer to move up for “iPods” than it would do for “shoe shops in Cheshire”. After looking into your keywords we will let you know what results to expect based on the package and work you have chosen.
